AfroWema is not just a fashion brand — it’s a bold cultural statement, rooted in sustainability, community empowerment, and the timeless elegance of African artistry. Founded by Tatiana Teixeira, a Portuguese-Kenyan creative with a background in biology and marketing, AfroWema brings together the past and the future in striking silhouettes that celebrate identity, craftsmanship, and slow fashion.

The label’s signature pieces blend upcycled denim from Kibera, Nairobi’s vibrant informal settlement, with bold Kitenge prints from West and East Africa, and natural fabrics like linen sourced across the continent. Every stitch is intentional, every fabric chosen with purpose. AfroWema works closely with designers and artisans from communities facing challenging circumstances, supporting local talent while promoting sustainable, ethical production.

Since its debut at Kenya’s renowned Tribal Chic fashion event, AfroWema has captured attention on the international stage, receiving invitations to show at fashion weeks and cultural festivals — most recently at the Global Fashion Festival in New Delhi, where AfroWema was the only African brand represented. But beyond the runway, AfroWema remains deeply committed to impact. Initiatives like Sustainable Fashion 4Kids and collaborations with universities and art centers ensure the brand nurtures the next generation of conscious creatives.

AfroWema’s collections are not defined by trends, but by purpose. Each piece tells a story — of resilience, of beauty, of Africa rising.

For those who believe fashion should feel good, do good, and look unforgettable — AfroWema is the name to remember.

Crafted for the Journey. Designed to Stand Out

At Akala 21, we don’t just make sandals. We shape stories from leather — stories of heritage, mastery, and modern African elegance.

Every pair begins with the finest materials: premium, locally sourced leather, hand-cut and hand-stitched by skilled artisans who understand the rhythm of tradition and the precision of innovation.

Inspired by the African spirit and designed for the world, our sandals are a fusion of minimalist design and deep cultural detail. Built to last. Made to move. Worn to express.

We believe footwear should be more than functional. It should be a statement — of taste, of craft, of origin.

Welcome to Akala 21. Where every step is intentional.
