Grooming Dreams, Inspiring Goals: Ciruma Mbare’s Stylish Mission of Hope in Kiandutu

In the heart of Thika, within the bustling and often overlooked Kiandutu Slum, something beautiful is happening—something powerful, transformative, and wrapped in love, hope, and a little sparkle.

It’s here that Ciruma Angela Mbare, professional fashion stylist, image consultant, and founder of Attirety Services Ltd, is using her flair for style to craft more than just iconic looks—she’s shaping futures.

Through her pioneering charity initiative Grooming and Goals™, Ciruma is mentoring and empowering young girls from some of the most vulnerable corners of society. These girls—many of whom are direct or indirect survivors of gender-based violence (GBV)—find safety, healing, and purpose at The Fernando’s Salama Safe Shelter and Mentorship Hub, operated by the Girl Child Network.

Since its inception in 2021, Grooming and Goals™ has grown into more than just a mentorship program. It is a movement—a nurturing sanctuary where young girls are taught the power of dreaming big, setting goals, loving themselves, and showing up with confidence, no matter the odds.

“We want the girls to see that their background does not define their future,” says Ciruma. “By helping them understand their self-worth, teaching them how to carry themselves with pride, and giving them practical tools to thrive, we’re building a new generation of confident, capable women.”

Each year, the program hosts two to three major signature events, alongside several smaller grooming and mentorship sessions throughout the calendar. These sessions go far beyond fashion and poise. The girls engage in goal-setting workshops, vision boarding, self-esteem training, and psycho-social support sessions—delivered in a safe, judgment-free space.

But of course, grooming is a love language in itself. As part of the program, girls are styled and prepared to feel good and look good for important milestones like school term starts and Christmas holidays. And they never leave empty-handed. Each girl takes home a care pack filled with essentials: sanitary pads, panties, dry foodstuffs, and hygiene items—essentials often overlooked but life-changing in their significance. These gifts not only support the girls, but also help ease the burden on their families, making the impact ripple across entire households.

What Ciruma is doing is radical in its simplicity: meeting girls exactly where they are and showing them where they can go. In a world that often tells girls from informal settlements that they are invisible, Grooming and Goals™ insists they are seen, worthy, and destined for greatness.

And perhaps the most stylish part of it all? The empowerment isn’t loud or performative—it’s elegant, sustainable, and steeped in empathy. Every mentorship session, every take-away pack, every word of encouragement, is part of Ciruma’s legacy of restoring dignity and instilling self-belief through a fashion-forward, purpose-driven lens.

In Kiandutu, thanks to Ciruma and her passionate team of mentors, hope wears lipstick, walks tall, and dreams without limits.
