Our ethos revolves around transforming overlooked and discarded textiles into unique, wearable works of art. Using intricate screen-printing techniques, we breathe new life into leftover and unusable fabrics, creating garments that not only tell a story but also embody our commitment to sustainability.
Creations lean heavily toward circular practices, focusing on preventing textile waste through upcycling and innovative design. We aim to challenge the fast fashion narrative by emphasizing responsible consumerism and sustainable storytelling.
In my words, sustainability means creating a harmonious balance where fashion does not come at the expense of our environment. It’s about celebrating what we have, embracing imperfections, and nurturing the potential of materials that would otherwise be discarded.
While YUGI was born out of a commitment to sustainability, I have encountered challenges along the way—particularly in sourcing materials and educating consumers about sustainable choices. Nevertheless, these hurdles have only strengthened my resolve to advocate for eco-conscious fashion.
I believe policies encouraging transparency in sourcing and production practices can greatly facilitate accessibility to sustainable fashion. However, there are policies that unfortunately hinder progress, such as those that do not incentivize sustainable materials or impose heavy tax burdens on small businesses looking to innovate.
At YUGI Creations, we wear our values on our sleeves — literally. From the streets of Nairobi to the catwalks of Cape Town, African fashion is rising. And it’s not just stylish — it’s smart, soulful, and sustainable.
